Muzdoor.com Trust
By Mansoor Ul Abedin, CEO, Muzdoor.com
The main question these artificial intelligence (AI) days is how to trust a muzdoor or simply any labour or vendors and contractors. Even before the AI revolution the muzdoor and the construction industry was suspicious.
It is because there is no government implemented program to control the labour and the industry. There is no certification program. There is no license program. There is an education program but no one is interested due to lack of government certification enforcement.
Moreover, even the certified engineers lack technical information and experience. Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) is there only to provide engineers at a certain level. Even PEC is not able to implement enforced certified programs for their non-certified engineers. It is a sad story. No doubt.
Even with malign infrastructure; I have come across several muzdoor, individuals, contractors and engineering companies to implement correct engineering policies in their work. Everyone wants to work with humble person. A person must be sharp enough to understand what’s going on with the project.
How to develop a trust?
The easiest way to create a trust is to develop written contracts. Often, home owners, investors, lease investors, etc. work verbally. This is completely wrong and very unprofessional way to work. The current state of matter with youth is that they will need and find what exactly a muzdoor/vendor is going to work on. They need to see line by line work in writing and complete written scope of work.
Scope of Work (SOW)
Scope of work is a technical document that is the foundation of trust and will help both parties to develop a trust. However, in simple English, it simply lays out the plans and work in a single document. The document can be of one page or of many pages depending on the civil work. Let’s dig in why everyone need a SOW when engaging a muzdoor/vendor/contractor.
The SOW mainly has several parts. Let’s discuss few important ones below.
Work definition: What products and services are contractors offering? What is the financial value of the project? Muzdoor/vendors must define end products or services in layman’s term. A contractor is basically defining the problem of a customer.
Deliverables: The contractor must lay out a plan on how they will deliver the work as mentioned in the customer’s problem.
Administration: This is by far the most important factor in SOW. This is actually that will develop and create trust between both parties. The reason being, who is actually going to watch the work or simply administer the contractor’s work.
Milestones: Estimated delivery of time to finish the work. Meeting deadlines is very important for both the customers and the muzdoor/vendors. If muzdoor is not meeting the deadlines, then simply a day late is an extra expense that will incur an expense and dispute will be raised by the customer.
Reports: Customers like to be updated every minute. These can be done on a daily basis either via email or verbal. Just pick up a call and update the customer. The customers will appreciate a human call instead of an email. However, email is necessary to jot down and record the happenings.
Dispute: This clause can save money and time to both muzdoor/vendors and customers. Depending on the geographic location and the law; both parties must define the dispute resolution in such a manner that cost is low. The dispute resolution is a cost and mediators will charge on the basis of financial value of the project.
Insurance: Some work will require an insurance. People usually ignore this factor just to save cost. However, the insurance cost is not that much as compared to the stress and boiling point of the customers. Muzdoor/Contractors should work with insurance companies to implement the insurance in the engineering work. Safety is the number one priority on any work. Safety itself is a huge topic and covers vast areas.
This is a simple article to educate our customers that why scope of work (SOW) is needed to develop a trust between both muzdoor/vendors and the customers. The SOW are always measurable. Of course, scope of work (SOW) is a very technical document that covers many clauses from simple work definition to legal clauses. The work needs to be physically secure for the muzdoor/vendors/labour and customers at all angles.
Why muzdoor should be an educated person?
You probably thinking that what does education has to do with the muzdoor or the construction worker? It sounds stupid and funny. This may also shows that writer has no sense.
Now, for a moment, think what if your muzdoor and construction worker is an educated person. The real question is what kind of education that I am talking about? The education is an industry. There are several types of education. My focus on this article is education but in a way where muzdoor and construction worker can be beneficial.
Education is a very vast subject. It is not just merely going to schools and universities and getting a degree to get a job. It is beyond getting a degree. Education is knowledge.
What is an Education?
I would say there are several definitions however, the main purpose is below.
Education is a structured process of attaining a knowledge, skills, values, behaviours, and critical thinking abilities.
The education enables any person to contribute, innovate and function in the society. Having said that, do you think or believe that Pakistani muzdoor/vendors and construction workers are contributing and innovating functioning in the society? The answer is mix of thoughts and experiences. It is a human right to get the basic education from their mother. If a kid is not getting a basic education from their parents; all hell is going to break lose in coming years when that child is at puberty. Education itself is a very complex factor in any human’s life.
The seven (7) points I discussed about creating trust is the most basic trust factors to consider.
Work definition
Deliverables
Administration
Milestones
Reports
Dispute
Insurance
A single communication gap will have major trust issues in the next course of action. These SOWs create trust.;
